Crossroad Press Preorders

Crossroad Press Preorders

It’s been a trying year. People have been locked in, masked up, worried for family and friends… but some have remained productive. This year we at Crossroad Press have released twenty-five Crossroad Press originals across several genres. We are reaching more readers, some libraries, some book stores… here are the originals for 2020 (so far) . Some are still on pre-order, and I hope you’ll consider ordering them ahead of time. Every pre-order counts as a sale on release day – and when a book releases with a higher ranking, it is more visible to the world at large. We also very much appreciate reviews. These are the titles currently available for pre-order. Note that Tuxedo Junction will go live on Monday. This collection from Thom Carnell got a wonderful review in Publisher’s Weekly and would make a great last minute Christmas present…

By night, Alec is the only man strong enough, fast enough, and svelte enough to reluctantly squeeze into the skintight turquoise mantle of the superhero known as the Whirlwind. No matter how many supervillains choose Centerport to kick-off their crazy schemes of mass destruction and world domination, the Whirlwind will always be there to defeat them. VOICES IN THE DARKNESS – Edited by David Niall Wilson – Fiction by Nadia Bulkin, Kathe Koja, Elizabeth Massie, Nick Mamatas, Cassandra Khaw and Brian A. Hopkins – Preorder by 4/13/2021 – Sometimes the world is a very dark place. Six award-winning authors lent their talent to this work. The stories are unique, and dark, filled with wonder and emotion.

New Audio From Crossroad Press

New Audio From Crossroad Press

2020 has been… interesting. This newsletter has been one of the things neglected, and I apologize for that. Believe me, it does not mean we have not been busy. I’m breaking audio off into this separate post. There will be a post about Crossroad Press Originals – and another about eBooks. I hope you are all safe, well, and ready to read.

Possibly our biggest news is that the unabridged Audiobook The Last Temptation of Christ, by Nikos Kazantzakis – performed by Joshua Saxon – is live and available. It’s a 22 hour monster of an audiobook, brilliantly narrated… the story of how we got the rights to this book is an amazing one, but there is no time for that here…

The Ten newest audiobook titles are:

Bloodwars (Necroscope Book 8) – by Brian Lumley – Narrated by Joshua Saxon

Alibi – by John McCarty – Narrated by James Romick

Exquisite Corpse – by Poppy Z. Brite – Narrated by Joshua Saxon

Murder Most Fowl – Dan Rhodes Mysteries by Bill Crider, Book #7 – Narrated by Chris Abell

Sweet Dreams are Made of Teeth – by Richard Roberts, Narrated by Henry Hanson

Don’t Miss out on Free Audiobooks!

There is a site where we are offering a great number of free audiobook download codes – aptly named “Freeaudiobookcodes.com” – run by Narrator and Sound Engineer extraordinaire – Jeffrey Kafer. Right now you can get US and UK Audible download codes for a ton of Crossroad Press books, with more coming. We are hoping you’ll take a chance on audio (a free chance – did I say that?) and that you’ll take the time at the end to leave, if not a review, at least a rating for the author and narrator. We are literally fighting against the “machine” in trying to market audiobooks… the market has always been owned by an elite group of publishers and marketed by elite trade periodicals no one can afford to subscribe to, or advertise in, without big corporate money. Here is your chance to hear some amazing books – and support our authors and narrators. Here are some titles with codes available right now:

Announcing the Macabre Ink Resurrected Horrors Series

Since 2010, Crossroad Press has had the privilege of bringing out-of-print horror back in digital format for a number of authors including, but not limited to, Ronald Kelly, Bill Crider (Jack MacLane), Rick Hautala, Charles L. Grant, Brian Hodge, Elizabeth Massie, Joseph A. Citro, Melanie and Steve Tem, Thomas Tessier, and many, many others. Since their original digital publication, formatting standards have changed, and they were out-of-date. With the new Macabre Ink Resurrected Horrors series, these books are being updated to the newest styles and formatting, with their covers updated with the series ribbon for easy identification. The first wave features ten classic horror novels from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. Subsequent waves will each feature at least five titles, with a planned release of one wave every couple of months. Here are the ten novels in wave one of the Macabre Ink Resurrected Horrors series:

UNDERTAKER’S MOON

A graveyard feast beneath the summer moon …

The rural town of Old Hickory. Tennessee was a quiet, picturesque community … until the O’Sheas came to town.

Becoming the new proprietors of the town’s only funeral parlor, with the help of their charming patriarch, Square McManus, the Irish family was wholeheartedly accepted by the local townfolk. The thing began to happen. Strange things … horrible, unspeakable things … in the dead of night.

The sighting of wolfish beasts congregating around an open grave in the town cemetery. Frightening changes in several of Old Hickory’s less desirable residents. And the brutal murder and devouring of a varsity football player in the wooded wilderness outside of town. Soon, what was once concealed in shadow and secrecy was now starkly revealed, in all its ravenous fury, by the silvery light of the full moon.

As the residents of Old Hickory, as well as the local police, begin to fall victim to an unknown evil, four individuals—the town nerd, a high school jock, a widowed gunsmith, and a mysterious transient from a distant shore—find themselves facing what could possibly be a hellish lycanthrope from ancient Ireland … the legendary Arget Bethir … the Silver Beast.

But instead of peace, he is hurled into chaos. Some dark and ancient hatred, some evil force, is unleashed, wreaking vengeance on the islanders, mangling the living and mutilating the dead.

And, as the piercing songs rise to met the roaring wind, Colin Ross, against his will, is sucked into the raging storm.

The Kill Riff RH (low res)
THE KILL RIFF

Lucas dreams it every night: the rockshow, flashy, ear-pounding, chaotic. The frothed-up mob that storms the stage. The death of his daughter Kristen, trampled in a sudden surge of tribal frenzy. In Lucas Ellington’s eyes, the audience is blameless. His child was murdered by the main event — Whip Hand, the ultimate party band.

The arena disaster in which Kristen was killed causes Whip Hand to disband, but the individual musicians are still out there, alive and kicking.

Not for long.

Whip Hand’s lead singer, Gabriel Stannard, has established a successful solo career, but knows how fickle his public is. He has to do something — and soon — to retain his position as the baddest, meanest, most dangerous rockstar of all time. And he knows that Lucas is saving him for last in his campaign of revenge. Each man targets the other in a vendetta of honor versus glory.

The Kill Riff traffics not only in the dark side of rock music and media exploitation, but explores what vengeance does to the avenger, in hard-ass 4/4 time.

The Cats cover2 RI (low res)
THE CATS

THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF CATS CRAZED WITH BLOODLUST

A giant Doberman pinscher—the most vicious and deadly of killer dogs—lay in a bloody heap, its unseeing eyes still glazed with astonished terror.

A young dropout on an acid trip smiled at the animals that were ripping his flesh from his bones—until he realized that this was really happening.

What was left of a kindly old lady lay beside the shattered saucer of milk she had intended to put on the ground.

A powerfully built rapist in the midst of his outrage felt the claws on his back—and his lust turned to gibbering agony.

All over the vast city it was happening and no one seemed able to stop them—the police, the army, the scientist. And cat after cat was infected by the ferocious fever that for the first time made them the masters of man…

THE CATS

ALL CLAN NOVELS AND DARK AGES CLAN NOVELS NOW AVAILABLE!

I’ts been a long, and very busy spring and summer at Crossroad Press. Starting near the beginning of the year we undertook a pretty huge side-task – reviving the White Wolf World of Darkness Clan novels – both Vampire the Masquerade, and Vampire: The Dark Ages – as well as the Dark Ages trilogy “The Grails Covenant”. These books had to be scanned, formatted, proofed and recreated alongside the huge number of other new titles being published. We are happy to announce that this task is complete, and all of the White Wolf books we have licensed are now available through most eBook retailers, and in trade paperback on Amazon. You can find them at the WHITE WOLF PUBLISHING page on our website.

For Halloween we have a new Crossroad Press original THE BOOGEY MAN: A Monstrous Fairy Tale – by Shane Berryhill. This is available for pre-order in all eBook formats, but you can have it now in trade paperback from Amazon .

We are welcoming a number of new authors to Crossroad Press, inlcuding Brock E. Deskins, Tom Cassidy, Glen Ebisch, E. F. Watkins, and many more. We have the first two in Richard Roberts’ “Please Don’t Tell My Parents” superevillain books back in eBook and trade paperback with the others hot on their heels, as well as his new fantasy A Rag Doll’s Guide to Here and There – which is just out in unabridged audio as well.

In audio, we’re EXTREMELY proud to be working now with Kathe Koja – whose novel “SKIN” – which is half dark poetry, half stream of conciousness, and all wonderful – is now available – performed by Suzanne T. Fortin – who did an incredible job on a very difficult narration. You can order the SKIN audiobook now, as well as our 600 plus other titles

You will be hearing from me more often. The website is fully up to date, with the exception of some of the audio-only titles, and will REMAIN up to date. Each product page offers your choice of retailers – Apple, Kobo, Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble and (if applicable) Audible. Stay tuned for more exciting news this fall, including updates on the pre-order dates for F. Paul Wilson’s THE LAST CHRISTMAS: A Repairman Jack Novel, and Brian Pinkerton’s new psychological thriller TIME WARP. There will be new entries into the MANY WORLDS OF C. T. PHIPPS and much, much more. And for the kids in your life at Halloween – we suggest THE SKELETON INSIDE ME – by David Niall Wilson – Illustrated by Dan Monroe.

The Skeleton Inside Me

Welcome F. Paul Wilson to Crossroad Press

Welcome F. Paul Wilson to Crossroad Press

I’m going to go on at length, so, before I do, I’d like to announce that Crossroad Press will be publishing the trade hardcover, trade paperback, eBook and audiobook editions of F. Paul Wilson’s The Last Christmas – a Repairman Jack novel. The book will appear in Hardcover in mid November, shortly followed by the trade paperback. The eBook and Audiobook editions will (if the Gods of audio agree with us) will be available on the official release date, December 19th, the day that the events of the novel take place. I also want to mention that the book can be ordered now in a gorgeous signed, limited edition from Gautnlet Press – I bought a copy almost as soon as it was up for order. That link is HERE. There are signed and lettered editions, and Barry Hoffman did a wonderful job on the design.

The cover design for our book is traditional Jack, courtesy of the team of David Dodd, and Aaron Rosenberg (who also handled the print interior). We will put the eBook and audiobook up for pre-order as soon as we can to match up with the release date.

THE NOVEL: Jack is back.

Jack is back.

It’s late December between Ground Zero and Fatal Error, a winter of discontent for Jack who’s perhaps spending too much time hanging at Julio’s. An old contact, Edward Burkes, convinces him to take on a missing-person fix. As usual, nothing is as it seems and the missing person isn’t exactly a person. In fact, it’s like nothing anyone has ever seen.

And in the middle of all this, the mysterious Madame de Medici hires him to safeguard a valuable object. Simple, right?

Not even close.

Yep, Jack is back and, as usual, weird trouble is on his heels.

Now… I promised I was going to go on a bit. A long, long time ago, at a wonderful convention called NECON, I met F. Paul Wilson, Charlie Grant, Rick Hautala, put faces to the names Mark Rainey and Elizabeth Massie, Tom Monteleone, Yvonne Navarro, and Jeff Osier. So many more. I will never forget that there was a conversation between Paul, Charlie, and Rick Hautala going on about what was the best horror story ever… and they accepted me into it as if I was one of them. For that weekend – I was.  Now, so many years, and so many books beyond that – for both of us – I get to publish one of Paul’s books – in a series that I love – with magic, and demons, a hero who would die for those he loves.  So much imagination and depth – an entire world of it.  I consider this an honor. I’m a very picky reader. I tend to read all of a person’s body of work if I fall in love with a single title because it’s very rare that I find a voice that I love. I read many of the Repairman Jack novels years back – but have started over at the beginning, listening to the audio. Our audiobook will be performed by Jeffrey Kafer, who I know will be perfect.   More news will follow, as we get it – reviews, possibly a contest. I sincerely hope to make this a bestseller for Paul, and for Jack. Jack works hard for his money…
