T. J. MacGregor is the author of more than 30 novels and in 2003 won the Edgar Allan Poe award for Out of Sight.  She was born at Ballantine Books in 1987, when her editor told her that her maiden name, Trish Janeshutz, was too difficult to pronounce and that  mysteries by men were outselling mysteries by women. Could she please come up with a name that had initials? By then, she was married to novelist Rob MacGregor, so she became T.J. MacGregor. A few years later, she wrote Tango Key and by then, mysteries by women were outselling mysteries by men and her editor asked her to create a new female name for that book. So, she became Alison Drake.  Now that the world has moved on, and her work is coming back to a new world of readers through digital and digital audio, she is happy to bring her work together as T. J. MacGregor.

For a limited time, three of her novels – from three different mystery series – have been discounted to only .99 apiece. The Hanged Man is the first in the Mira Morales series (Supernatural Suspense) The Seventh Sense is the first novel about Charlie Calloway, an ex FBI agent who steps into worlds of the mind she did not expect to encounter.  Dark Fields is the first of the Quin St. James mysteries…  We hope all of these discounted titles will find their way to the hands of generations of new fans… Don’t hesitate. They will only be .99 for a short time!

Donovan DeChance is a collector of ancient manuscripts and books, a practicing mage, and a private investigator. This Omnibus Collection includes books I, II, III, and IV of the series. Included are Heart of a Dragon, Vintage Soul, My Soul to Keep (The Origin story of Donovan DeChance) and Kali’s Tale – book IV of the series. Also included are the bonus novellas “The Not Quite Right Reverend Cletus J. Diggs & The Currently Accepted Habits of Nature,” and “The Preacher’s Marsh,” both of which provide background on settings and characters that appear in Kali’s Tale. If you enjoy this book, you should read Nevermore, A Novel of Love, Loss & Edgar Allan Poe, which follows on Kali’s Tale, has a cameo from Donovan DeChance, and leads into Book V – A Midnight Dreary, currently in progress.

Heart of a Dragon: When a local houngan begins meddling with powers she may not be able to control, a turf war breaks out between the Dragons motorcycle club and the Los Escorpiones street gang—a war that threatens to open portals between worlds and destroy the city in the process. With his lover, Amethyst, his familiar, Cleo – an Egyptian Mau the size of a small bobcat –the dubious aid of a Mexican sorcerer named Martinez and the budding gifts of a young artist named Salvatore, DeChance begins a race against time, magic, and almost certain death.

Vintage Soul: When, despite the finest in natural and supernatural security, a sexy and well-loved, three hundred year old lady vampire is kidnapped right out from under her lover’s nose, Donovan is called in to investigate. There will be no ransom for the kidnap victim, and if Donovan doesn’t prevent an ancient, forbidden ritual from reaching its culmination, far more than a single vampire’s undead existence will be at stake.

My Soul to Keep: Donovan DeChance is a very private man, and he is in love. When he invites his partner and lover, Amethyst, for a quiet dinner, she has no idea of his true intention. Donovan has planned a sharing – a vision that will give her the keys to his early life – the origins of his power – and a lot more than she bargained for. Join young Donovan as he fights to keep his soul, save a town, and learn the roots of his teacher and guardian – and meet his familiar, Cleo.

Kali’s Tale: When Donovan is asked to follow in secret as a hot-headed group of young vampires set out on a ‘blood quest’ to kill the ancient who created the young vampire Kali against her will, he learns that – as usual – there is a lot more to the story than meets the eye. Through the juke joints of Beale Street in Memphis, to the depths of The Great Dismal Swamp, Donovan and his lover and partner, Amethyst, find themselves drawn along on one of the strangest quests in their long, enigmatic lives as they delve into the world of the undead, the magic of The Blues, and the very heart of alchemy both to protect their young, vampiric charges – and to prevent an ancient evil from destroying the balance of power in the universe.

This novel directly crosses over to the original series O.C.L.T. – where Donovan is a sometimes consultant. It features appearances by Geoffrey Bullfinch and Rebecca York, O.C.L.T. agents, as well as Old Mill, North Carolina’s own Cletus J. Diggs.

HERO OF DREAMS:

Something vital is missing from David Hero’s comfortable, ordinary existence. One day is much like the next, simple, predictable…boring.

But the nights! Each night David Hero finds himself transported to a marvelous world where brave men and women battle terrible creatures possessed of cruel, dark powers.

Despite his fears, the Dreamworlds tempt David, drawing him farther and farther from the waking world. Here he finds noble warriors; beautiful, loving women; and challenges almost greater than he can imagine.

THE COMPLEAT CROW:

“He was tall and broad-shouldered, and it was plain to see that in his younger days, he had been a handsome man. Now…his hair had greyed a little, and his eyes, though still very bright and observant, bore the imprint of many a year spent exploring – and often, I guessed, discovering – along rarely trodden paths of mysterious, obscure learning.”

Mysterious, obscure learning….

To many thousands of listeners world-wide, Titus Crow is the psychic sleuth – the cosmic voyager and investigator – of Brian Lumley’s Cthulhu Mythos novels, from The Burrowers Beneath to Elysia.

But before The Burrowers and Crow’s transition, his exploits were chronicled in a series of short stories and novellas uncollected in the USA, except in limited editions. Now these stories can be told again. From Inception, which tells of Crow’s origins, to The Black Recalled, a tale of vengeance from beyond the grave, here in one volume, from the best-selling author of the epic Necroscope series, is The Compleat Crow.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Brian Lumley (born 2 December 1937) is an English horror-fiction writer.

Born in County Durham, he joined the British Army‘s Royal Military Police and wrote stories in his spare time before retiring with the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1 in 1980 and becoming a professional writer.

In the 1970s he added to H. P. Lovecraft‘s Cthulhu Mythos cycle of stories, including several tales and a novel featuring the character Titus Crow. Several of his early books were published by Arkham House. Other storiespastiched Lovecraft’s Dream Cycle but featured Lumley’s original characters David Hero and Eldin the Wanderer. Lumley once explained the difference between his Cthulhu Mythos characters and Lovecraft’s: “My guys fight back. Also, they like to have a laugh along the way.”

Later works included the Necroscope series of novels, which produced spin-off series such as the Vampire World Trilogy, The Lost Years parts 1 and 2, and the E-Branch trilogy. The central protagonist of the earlier Necroscopenovels appears in the anthology Harry Keogh and Other Weird Heroes. The latest entry in the Necroscope saga isThe Mobius Murders.[1]

Lumley served as president of the Horror Writers Association from 1996 to 1997. On 28 March 2010 Lumley was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award of the Horror Writers Association. He also received a World Fantasy Awardfor Lifetime Achievement in 2010.

New Box Sets for the Holidays. Save and Discover New Authors!

New Box Sets for the Holidays. Save and Discover New Authors!

Last holiday we introduced a series of really big boxed sets, many with 20 novels apiece, to draw attention and interest to some of our less-read books.  Those box sets were a huge success.  We will keep them available for a limited time – ending on December 31st.  That would include A Haunting of Horrors, A Murder of Mysteries, A Haunting of Horrors II, as well as the humorous fantasy, thriller and western sets.

This year, we will be going a slightly different route.  Most of the promotions that work well for eBooks will promote a set of books by a single author, but not a box set by multiple, so we have begun creating single author sets of 3-4 books apiece, many to introduce an ongoing series, others to bring a new audience to a particular author…while bringing big savings to you guys – the readers supporting us.  Here is the first wave of box sets:

The DeChance Chronicles Omnibus – Books 1-4 by David Niall Wilson –   Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
Ebenezum – The Ebenezum Trilogy – by Craig Shaw Gardner –  Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Manhattan Ghost Story Trilogy – by T. M. Wright – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Ryerson Biergarten Series – by T. M. Wright  – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Strange Seed Series – by T. M. WRight – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Orangefield Cycle – by Al Sarrantonio  Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Order of the Air Omnibus – by Melissa Scott & Jo Graham – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The O.C.L.T. Omnibus – Books 1-4 – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Joe Sonntag Mysteries – By Axel Brand – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Evil Trilogy – by Hugh B. Cave – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
Off the Wall Mysteries – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Whit Pynchon Mysteries Volume 1 (Books 1-3) by Dave Pedneau – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The Land of Ten Thousand Willows Trilogy – Kathryn Ptaceck – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad
The William Bayer Collection – Book 1 of each of three Mystery Series – Amazon / B&N / Crossroad

Orangefield Omnibus (low res) aquariuswebwebcpver Instruments Omnibus 1 (low res)

You have probably noticed that the blog looks different.  If you click on through to the CROSSROAD PRESS ONLINE STORE you’ll see that has changed, as well.  We are nearing the end of a major makeover – upgrading to a more professional, and integrated store and blog in the hope of serving our readers (and our authors) better.

I’ll make this short and then, hopefully, work back into a more regular routine of posting.

Working with authors Trish & Rob MacGregor (and through tireless formatting hours by myself, David Dodd & Aaron Rosenberg) we have reincarnated the Sydney Omarr Astrology series – one book of annual predictions for each sign.  Trish & Rob were the authors of this series for NAL, but the publisher has dropped it … now it lives again.  You can get all 12 in eBook and PRINT from the Crossroad Press Store or your favorite retailer.

BARGAINS: We have been busy with Book Bub promotions.  Live now is a .99 promotion on the children’s book THE SKELETON INSIDE ME … there is also audio, read by the talented Gigi Shane.  Coming up on the 10th James Dalessandro’s CITIZEN JANE will be featured at Bookbub in a True Crime promotion – and will also be available for .99.  His novel 1906 – which is amazing, and takes place during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake – will also be .99 during that period as part of a different promotion… this book is now re-released in audio – narrated by Gigi Shane – and is a must read for historical mystery buffs…

We have a new omnibus, just published, featuring the first three books of Paul Dale Anderson’s INSTRUMENTS OF DEATH series… the omnibus is only $2.99 and leads on into a much longer series.  This is also part of the Kindle Unlimited Program.  If you use that program, we have a number of books available through there, including historical romance, horror, mysteries and Ingo Swann’s “Penetration” which sounds dirty – but is about Alien contact and alternate dimensions…fascinating stuff.

Also in a a new omnibus format are the first three novels of Al Sarrantonio’s ORANGEFIELD Cycle – with Halloween creeping up on you, you don’t want to miss those…

Let us know what you think of the blog’s new look, and the store… we have gone GREEN (as in SSL) though we keep and process NO CREDIT CARD INFO in our store itself, using Paypal to handle that.  That said, account data is secure, and we are available anytime help is needed.

On to October!

The Link to our Store

We are in the midst of major changes here.  Among those was the installation of an SSL certificate.  Our store is on a sub-domain of crossroadpress.com – and there was a DNS entry that had to be removed for this to operate properly.  While we are waiting for that to propagate across the Interwebz… please use this link to reach the store, and sorry for any inconvenience.
