FROM THE EDITORS

To say it’s been a rough summer for everyone would be an understatement. At Crossroad Press we’re pushing through, releasing some great original books, more amazing reprints, and pumping up our audiobook output. In a world where every book on our dashboard that doesn’t already have audio says, “Add audiobook with virtual voice,” the motivation to find real voices and combine authors and voice talents in meaningful ways takes on new importance.

It’s no easier than ever to promote, but we’re determined to start making better use of the resources we have, including this newsletter, so watch your inboxes for new releases, deals, review opportunities, and more. Let’s get to it. Please share links to the newsletter. Share the newsletter. Tell your friends.

For fans of the late and sorely missed James A. Moore, The Chronicles of Jonathan Crowley book series is nearly complete, ten volumes available, with only one still awaiting cover art. And the cover art is amazing, created by Dan Brereton. The first is being produced in audio, and the rest are available in eBook and Trade paperback.

NEW RELEASES

The Return of Supervillainy– Charles Phipps – Book 10 of the Supervillainy Saga

If you have not read this series, you are doing yourself a disservice. Loaded with pop culture references, snark, crazy characters and unlikely world-saving characters is worth the ride. I personally recommend the audiobooks for the full experience.

“Gary’s back. Tell a friend.”

Gary Karkofsky AKA Merciless: The Supervillain without MercyTM has managed to fall into a comfortable routine as the (acting) Supreme Archmage of Earth. More hero than villain these days, he’s recruited to a shadowy black ops team with a shocking mission: assassinate Helios: The Sun King, ruler of Tomorrow Island. Gary immediately twigs to the fact he’s the fall guy even as he has his own score to settle with Helios. Joining him will be a number of fan favorite characters as well as several new additions to the surreal world of the Supervillainy Saga.

It has two bonus stories in “Sidekick Girl versus Merciless” and “The Freelancer’s Cunning Plan.” It also contains “The Guide to the Supervillainy Saga” which will detail the entire history of the setting for long-term and new fans.

Please Don’t Tell My Parents I Bought Super Powers – Richard Roberts – Book 10 of the bestselling Please Don’t Tell My Parents series – Imagine you’re a flamboyant teenage girl convinced that super powers are the social edge you need. Imagine you convince a mad scientist to give you those powers. They always need test subjects, right? Imagine those powers come with a big drawback, like they always do. Congratulations, you’re Stella Deetz, the best dressed and most popular fear eating monster in LA. And you forgot to keep a secret identity. Oops.

RE-RELEASES – These include Universal book links to all available eBook markets

Trouble and Her Friends – Melissa Scott. Less than a hundred years from now, the forces of law-and-order crack down on the world of the Internet. It is the closing of the frontier. The hip, noir adventurers who got by on wit, bravado, and drugs, who haunt the virtual worlds of the shadows of cyberspace are up against the edges of civilization. It’s time to adapt or die. More than 170 ratings on Amazon, 4.3 Stars – 1500 plus ratings on Goodreads. First time in eBook and trade paperback.

The Story of Noichi the Blind – Chet Williamson – The Story of Noichi the Blind blends Japanese classicism with the tropes of contemporary horror to create the most literate yet stomach-churning tale this writer has ever told. Purported to be a possibly lost Lafcadio Hearn manuscript, this Japanese “folk tale” (complete with introduction and scholarly afterword) tells the story of a simple woodcutter whose confrontation with a mountain demon plunges his life into a nightmare of violence, self-delusion, and extreme sexual darkness. Available in eBook, print, and audio (narrated by the author)

NEW PRE-ORDERS – including universal links to all pre-order outlets

The Bloodgold Queen – Morgan Sylvia – Book 2 of The Aris Empire – Series synopsis: When Stiva and her twin brother, Chandris, inherit the troubled throne of Aris, the populace grows uneasy, and with good reason. The twins, estranged for years after a bitter feud, are dynamic opposites. Stiva takes after their mother, a Reonih bard from the primal mushroom forests of distant Shadri, while Chandris favors their father, a hardened warlord, commander of the mighty Selin army.

Masquerade – John McCarty – The suspenseful tale of a vengeful criminal long believed dead, set against the backdrop of turbulent post-World War 1 France and Roaring Twenties Hollywood, where Universal’s super-production of a horror classic starring Lon Chaney is being sabotaged at every turn.

Bindings – Aaron Rosenberg – William Shakespeare’s first—and bloodiest—play.

It’s a real killer. 1590s London: Two friends and playwrights, Will and Kit, battle demonic creatures throughout the city, armed with only their wits and their words. Modern-day New York: Small theater director and would-be playwright Sunil Nair decides to put on an abbreviated version of Titus Andronicus. But as rehearsals begin, accidents start to occur among the cast and crew. Each one forces Sunil to adjust his plans, but each adjustment somehow makes things worse.

A Disturbance of Shadows – Sidney Williams-On the heels of personal tragedy and career disappointment, a young woman stumbles on brutal violence and eldritch secrets in an old Louisiana mansion. Will the residue of magick and powerful unfinished rituals fuel fresh terror?
