Women in Horror – a Big Crossroad Press Salute!

Women in Horror – a Big Crossroad Press Salute!

Note from CEO David Niall Wilson:

I have been privileged to have worked with a great number of talented ladies throughout a long career associated with publishing, writing, and several genres of fiction. I am likely most associated with the horror community, having served as the President of the HWA and won a couple of awards.  During that time, I’ve had the opportunity to meet and be influenced by so many talented authors. I’ve never really differentiated them by gender, race or any other criteria, but looking back, I can tell you that a great deal of the influence on my career, my writing style, and my love of horror as a genre can be attributed to a string of remarkable women. A short list (not complete) would include Elizabeth Massie, Kathe Koja, Poppy Z. Brite, Shirley Jackson, Tanith Lee, Yvonne Navarro, Anne Rice, Caitlin Kiernan, Patricia Lee Macomber, Janet Berliner and Joyce Carol Oates.  (No order, just thinking).

At Crossroad Press, we have also been privileged to publish a large number of “women in horror” and I wanted a post up here to highlight that.  I’m not putting the books on sale – I think if you are honoring something, trying to turn it into a bargain is not the best way to do that. I’m simply going to mention those we are working with, at least two of whom have (sadly) left us for whatever comes next. I hope you’ll follow the links, read some of the books, and love them as I have.
